Shawn Cornett MSc, PhD

My passion is in helping organizations and leaders achieve their vision in the most effective way possible. My approach is collaborative, adaptive, practical and focused. By working to understand what the starting point is, determining what the core issues are and which are priorities, it is possible to develop a pragmatic plan (intervention strategy, opportunities to leverage resources, timeline, measures and recovery plans) that will be targeted to assist the business efficiently to make progress towards achieving the mission and vision.

My line experience in operations, management and HR, combined with education and leadership in large corporations, gives me a wide set of skills to apply to diverse situations; big business, entrepreneurial and ‘start-ups’, not for profit. I’ve helped organizations in the oil and gas, finance, health and education sectors.

Consulting Practice Examples

Developing strategic mission, vision and plan and then aligning departments and teams with that vision so that they can do what they need to do. A significant increase in business opportunity required a change in mission and vision to take advantage of the potential and, it required the alignment of all to ensure performance would keep up with demand.

Developing leadership capacity, succession frameworks, recruiting strategies and effective organization design to move a business forward. This was an entrepreneurial firm in the health industry that had technical professionals moving into leadership and management roles. Defining and providing education and tools to effectively take on these roles was key and was supported by coaching and ongoing support.

Designing employee engagement initiatives and integrating them with existing programs. A small oil andgas firm needed to develop a culture and engage employees for a five year window.

Developing change and communication plans for strategy implementation. With a shift in strategic direction it was necessary for the organisation to ensure stakeholders understood and appreciated the benefits of the change.

Defining goals and metrics to support effective performance management and compensation so that rewards are effectively linked to business results. An environmental services company was growing and needed to ensure it was rewarding all employees equitably with a total compensation system that was perceived as fair.

From analysis of the needs of the organization, the core issues are addressed from a systemic perspective, to ensure the effort is as efficient, leveraged and aligned to be productive as possible with an outcome that is sustainable and supports the success of the business.
